Baby Carrier from Kalimantan

This dark wood hand carved baby carrier is from Kalimantan. It is used by the tribal women to carry their babies around while they go out to work in the forest or just their every day work. It is strapped to the back and usually has a Guardian carved on the back to give protection and keep evil spirits away from the baby.

This is about 100 years old and comes from all over Kalimantan, in some cases this was made from rattan, like a grass or later models with beads.
