the red face mask

Picture
Masks of Bali come in a number of different forms, having been used for thousands of years, and most primitive masks are used for tribal ceremonies.

Made of wood and depending on the specific region where they come from, they are made from a number of materials.

The goals of the Balinese masks are to scare off the evil spirits, sickness, or to prevent natural disasters such as famine, drought, and floods.

The Dance mask is one of the oldest performing arts known to man. Throughout Indonesia many types of masks are worn for funerals, some for initiation rites, some for exorcism rituals or dance masks.

The power of the mask is still believed strongly today and continues to be used.
As the masks are worn it creates a more realistic presentation of the performer as he portrays being a God, Demon or an Ancestor.

(We believe this mask is not very old but we simply like it )
